Victorian Iraqi Social Club

$1650 Goal Kick registration fees for 30 children

This grant enabled 30 Sudanese, Iraqi, Turkish, Iranian, Vietnamese and Nigerian children to participate in a 12 week Goalkick program at the Reservoir Strikers Soccer Club.

$1800 Player Assistance

These grants were made possible by a grant from the Multicultural program of the AFL and are part of the beginning of a partnership between SWB and the AFL.

$397 and $390 Player Registration fees

These grants were made possible by a grant from the Multicultural program of the AFL and are part of the beginning of a partnership between SWB and the AFL.

Flemington Junior Football Club

$3000 Keeping kids in footy

The FJFC services the Kensington, Flemington, Ascot Vale, North and West Melbourne and Parkville communities. In 2007, over 40 young refugee boys, primarily from the Flemington Housing Estates, have played footy with the club. This grant will assist the club in offsetting the cost of subsidizing these players and providing transport to games.

Al Zahra Community Association

$1770 Player Registration, insurance and membership

Up to 15 children from small newly, arrived communities were able to play this season with the Darebin Legends Soccer Club.





North East Melbourne Sudanese Community

$1930 for player registration and ground hire fees

30 participants from Sudan, Liberia, Somalia and Sierra Leone played for the Preston Lions Soccer Club.

South Eastern Region Migrant Resource Centre

$1260 Girls Getting into Sport

This grant will assist in the establishment of a program for 8-15 Afghani girls from the City of Casey to allow them to be introduced to a number of sports including netball, basketball and soccer.

$300 for swimming lessons

Facilitated by Sheree McDonald from Foundation House.

Abdullah Abdi

$180 for player registration fees

This grant enable 10 year old Abdullah to play with the Maribyrnong United Soccer Club

Nyanit Kah

$290 Player Registration Fees

This grant enabled 22 year old Nyanit to continue to play soccer for Golden City Soccer Club in Bendigo. Nyanit is part of the recently arrived Karen community.

Melad Selman

$390 Player registration fees and equipment

This grant enabled 14 year old Melad to pay his fees and get some necessary equipment to enable him to play soccer for a soccer club in Fawkner.

Ronnie Kiyaya

$450 Registration fees

Ronnie plays for the Essendon Royals Soccer Club and this grant enabled him to pay his fees.





Benalla Rovers Soccer Club

$1150 Assistance with transport costs

The Benalla Rovers Soccer Club was in need of new players. A group of young men from Botswana were in need of a soccer team. The only hitch was that they live in Melbourne and the team plays in Albury. This grant will assist the club with transport costs to ensure that the club and the players could all meet their goals!

James Kur Yuang

James was able to join the Keilor Wolves Soccer team. This was facilitated by the Department of Human Services Victoria.

Western English Language School

$ 850.00

The grant enabled the school to buy materials for martial arts classes.

Awel Mabir

$ 110.00

The grant paid for Awel’s pre-2 Intensive swimming lessons.

Rachel Bora and Samuel Kahebwa

$ 170.00

Facilitated by Glengala Primary School, this grant helped Rachel and Samuel to enroll in swimming lessons and pay for their transportation.

Norwood Heights Netball Club

$360.00

The grant helped 15 refugee children to join the club. The grant paying for uniforms, fees and transportation.

Carlton Parkville Youth Service

$ 1360.00

The grant financed soccer tournaments paying for bus hire, fuel, registration fees and referee fees.

Longhorns Basketball Team

$ 1820.00

The grant helped finance the teams’ registration for matches and for their uniforms.

Whittlesea Community Connections

$ 3940.00

The grant was used to pay for 15 young peoples swimming lessons, transportation, interpreting and translation services, equipment and activities conducted by Life Saving Victoria.

Yei Yei Sandy

The grant helped Yei Yei pay for her soccer club fees and soccer boots. This was facilitated by the Health and Wellbeing Officer at the English Language School in Noble Park.

Ahmed Fahour

The grant helped Ahmed join the Northern Knights Development Squad paying for his team uniform and player insurance.

Eric Nguyen

$ 560.00

Eric joined the under 14’s team at Albion Football Club in Sunshine. The grant helped pay for his membership, uniforms, protective equipments, boots, team jumper and match fees for 15 weeks.

Kevin Formosa

$ 350.00

Kevin was identified by AFL Multicultural Development Officer for this grant. The grant helped pay for Kevin’s registration for Oakleigh Dragons Junior Football Club, buy his boots, protective equipment and uniforms

Yak Dut

$ 608.00

The grant helped Yak join and participate in local competition football by joining the Northern Football League. This was facilitated by West Lalor Football Club.
